Climate Solutions
In 2020, the Trust for Gov颅er颅nors Island and the New York City Mayor鈥檚 Office announced a vision to cre颅ate the Cen颅ter for Cli颅mate Solu颅tions, a com颅mu颅ni颅ty to accel颅er颅ate cli颅mate solu颅tions for cities on Gov颅er颅nors Island. In April 2023, fol颅low颅ing a two-year com颅pet颅i颅tive process led by the Trust and the City of New York, The New York Cli颅mate Exchange was select颅ed as the anchor research and edu颅ca颅tion颅al insti颅tu颅tion for this ini颅tia颅tive, in addi颅tion to pro颅grams pre颅sent颅ed by the Trust and the Island鈥檚 ten颅ants and part颅ners work颅ing in climate.
This work sup颅ports the research, devel颅op颅ment and demon颅stra颅tion of equi颅table cli颅mate solu颅tions for New York City鈥夆�斺�塼hat can be scaled and applied glob颅al颅ly鈥夆�斺�塨y:
- Expand颅ing oppor颅tu颅ni颅ties for the research and devel颅op颅ment of solu颅tions for resilient and healthy urban neigh颅bor颅hoods to ready New York City, and cities around the world, for cli颅mate change.
- Attract颅ing and grow颅ing high qual颅i颅ty green jobs for New York颅ers with a diverse range of back颅grounds through a range of edu颅ca颅tion颅al and train颅ing opportunities.
- Cre颅at颅ing space for New York颅ers to learn from, engage with, and play a cen颅tral role in cli颅mate advo颅ca颅cy and action.
