Climate Solutions
In 2020, the Trust for GovÂerÂnors Island and the New York City Mayor’s Office announced a vision to creÂate the CenÂter for CliÂmate SoluÂtions, a comÂmuÂniÂty to accelÂerÂate cliÂmate soluÂtions for cities on GovÂerÂnors Island. In April 2023, folÂlowÂing a two-year comÂpetÂiÂtive process led by the Trust and the City of New York, The New York CliÂmate Exchange was selectÂed as the anchor research and eduÂcaÂtionÂal instiÂtuÂtion for this iniÂtiaÂtive, in addiÂtion to proÂgrams preÂsentÂed by the Trust and the Island’s tenÂants and partÂners workÂing in climate.
This work supÂports the research, develÂopÂment and demonÂstraÂtion of equiÂtable cliÂmate soluÂtions for New York City — that can be scaled and applied globÂalÂly — by:
- ExpandÂing opporÂtuÂniÂties for the research and develÂopÂment of soluÂtions for resilient and healthy urban neighÂborÂhoods to ready New York City, and cities around the world, for cliÂmate change.
- AttractÂing and growÂing high qualÂiÂty green jobs for New YorkÂers with a diverse range of backÂgrounds through a range of eduÂcaÂtionÂal and trainÂing opportunities.
- CreÂatÂing space for New YorkÂers to learn from, engage with, and play a cenÂtral role in cliÂmate advoÂcaÂcy and action.

The Trust for GovÂerÂnors Island is proud to be a key memÂber of the HarÂbor CliÂmate ColÂlabÂoÂraÂtive, a joint iniÂtiaÂtive between three misÂÂÂsion-aligned pubÂlic entiÂties with sites along New York HarÂbor — the Trust for GovÂerÂnors Island, New York City EcoÂnomÂic DevelÂopÂment CorÂpoÂraÂtion (ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥EDC), and BrookÂlyn Navy Yard DevelÂopÂment CorÂpoÂraÂtion (µþ±·³Û¶ٰä). The ColÂlabÂoÂraÂtive will be the cenÂter of a burÂgeonÂing cliÂmate innoÂvaÂtion ecosysÂtem in New York City.
With over $725 milÂlion in pubÂlic investÂments for the green econÂoÂmy at ÃÛÌÒÖ±²¥EDC’s SunÂset Park DisÂtrict, the BrookÂlyn Navy Yard, and on GovÂerÂnors Island, all three partÂnerÂing instiÂtuÂtions supÂport cliÂmate innoÂvaÂtors through pilotÂing, tenÂantÂiÂng, regÂuÂlaÂtoÂry coorÂdiÂnaÂtion, workÂforce develÂopÂment, knowledge/data sharÂing, fundraisÂing, and facilÂiÂtatÂing access to City agenÂcies.
The Trust for GovÂerÂnors Island’s cliÂmate proÂgrams are supÂportÂed by AmaÂzon, Con EdiÂson, AnonyÂmous,
