Gov­er­nors Island is home to a diverse com­mu­ni­ty of arts and cul­ture orga­ni­za­tions from across the five bor­oughs and beyond, many of which offer res­i­den­cy pro­grams and oth­er oppor­tu­ni­ties for artists and cul­tur­al prac­ti­tion­ers across a wide vari­ety of fields. Insti­tute for Pub­lic Archi­tec­ture (IPA) 2026 Inde­pen­dent Project Residency

The IPA Inde­pen­dent Project Res­i­den­cy pro­gram invites emerg­ing and mid-career prac­ti­tion­ers – whose work focus­es on the pub­lic realm – to live and work dur­ing an eleven week live-in Res­i­den­cy in their space on Gov­er­nors Island. The Res­i­den­cy seeks to cre­ate new inter­dis­ci­pli­nary oppor­tu­ni­ties for col­lec­tive think­ing by pro­vid­ing com­mu­nal space for archi­tects, urban­ists, land­scape archi­tects, design­ers, artists, and researchers to live, work, and devel­op inde­pen­dent projects with­in the com­mu­ni­ty of the res­i­den­cy.

Gov­er­nors Island Arts Pub­lic Art Com­mis­sion­ing Program

Gov­er­nors Island Arts presents a lim­it­ed num­ber of pub­lic art projects each year as part of its pub­lic art com­mis­sion­ing pro­gram. Artists and orga­ni­za­tions inter­est­ed in show­ing work on the Island as part of this pro­gram are invit­ed to con­tact the Trust for Gov­er­nors Island’s Arts and Cul­ture team at ²¹°ù³Ù²õ°ªâ€‹g´Ç±¹¾±²õ±ô²¹²Ô»å.​o°ù²µ.
